Saki (Shimura) is at her wit's end with her son Keita, who refuses to go to school and stays shut in — what's commonly called a "futoko" (truant/school-refuser). Her husband is preoccupied with work and neglects the family. The homeroom teacher Sekiguchi visits and tries to reason with Keita, but it doesn't reach him. In a moment of weakness, Saki lets out her despair. "Please don't blame yourself, Mom..." Touched by Sekiguchi's kindness, Saki seeks to fill her loneliness by becoming physically intimate with him. But Keita sneaks out of his room and watches his mother's infidelity...
